At Xavier Mission, I had the opportunity to serve food in a soup kitchen, providing meals to those in need. Working in this environment gave me insight into the challenges faced by many in my community and deepened my empathy for those struggling with food insecurity. The experience taught me the importance of community support and inspired me to continue finding ways to give back. It was incredibly fulfilling to connect with others through such a meaningful service.
In my internship with Dr. Evan Gaines at Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, I had the chance to observe tissue repair procedures and review x-rays to study bone health. I learned important skills like keeping a sterile environment, assessing patients, and communicating with them effectively. I also got to see how a busy medical practice and hospital run day-to-day. Working alongside Dr. Gaines gave me a deeper understanding of what’s involved in providing quality healthcare.
For my Microplastic Research project, I focused on researching the dangers of microplastics and their impact on the environment and human health. With the guidance of a PhD mentor, Dr. Shalimar, I built a website to share critical information on microplastics and offer resources to help others learn about this growing issue. This project allowed me to expand my research skills and understand the importance of spreading awareness on environmental topics. I hope to use this platform to inspire others to engage with environmental challenges and seek sustainable solutions.
